Illuminating Christmas Gifts from Bocci

August 2021

28 series

New to the Bocci collection are a spectrum of soft, pastel shades within the 28 series, ranging from Opaque Pink, to Purple, Blue, and Orange. Resulting from an innovative fabrication process that manipulates both the temperature and the direction of air flow into blown glass, the 28 pendant appears as a slightly distorted sphere with an interior landscape of satellite shapes.

The 28t (3,5) makes for a thoughtful gift, and presents the spherical 28 pendant sitting upon a sleek, circular brass base. With the option to be placed on a bedside table, work-space, or mounted on a wall, the integral dimming system brings warmth and joy to any space.

For the book worm, illuminate cosy reading corners with 28.6 (1), which emits a warm glow from carefully crafted glass pendants that ascend a sophisticated black or brass stem. For the interiors enthusiast, brighten living spaces with energetic hanging pendants - from armatures, to clusters to tumbling droplet chandeliers (2,4,6).

57 series

The 57 series is produced by creating air pockets within a larger mass of dark grey or white opaline glass; each air pocket exhibits naturally occurring variations in size and shape, making each pendant completely unique. When illuminated, these hollow structures come alive to reveal a fluid silhouette.

For the dinner party host, the ambient atmosphere produced by the 57.6 (11) will bring guests closer together. For those looking for a more relaxed evening,  the 57t (9) placed on a bedside table will create a soothing environment.

73 series

Available in a choice of four finishes - clear glass and three varying hues of grey - the textural appearance and fluid movement of the 73 series is created by blowing liquid glass into a folded and heat-resistant ceramic fabric vessel.

The sculptural 73.3 floor lamp (15) emits a radiant light, brightening up cosy nooks. With a calming appearance reminiscent of rippling water, the 73t table light (13, 14) elevates interiors with a refined, pared-back silhouette, ideal for those seeking a seasonal refresh.

84 series

The textured fabric appearance of the 84 series is created by plunging a fine copper mesh basket, containing white glass moil, into hot, clear glass. Air is then blown through the matrix, creating a soft pillow-like form. A low-voltage xenon or LED light source emits a warm coppery hue, ideal for relaxed settings. Well suited for living spaces, the 84t (18) will add colour and light to a coffee table, or brighten shelf displays with its soft, peach glow.

About Bocci

Bocci is a design research studio, lab and factory based in Vancouver, Canada. The team is made up of designers and architects, glassblowers and metalworkers, carpenters and chemists, engineers and artists. Together they celebrate the interaction of the craft knowledge between these skills, experimenting, collaborating and learning as they go. Bocci products are punctuation marks in the studio’s ongoing study of matter and process.

Every single Bocci product is handmade. Each one is variously blown, poured, carved, polished, packed and dispatched directly from their Vancouver base. As such, no two products are identical; they are individual, irregular and unique expressions of evolving research.
